Architectural Excellence : A modular office and amenity facility of 346 sq m / 3724 sq ft size for oil & gas player Halliburton is situated in the coastal area of Mongstad in Norway. The exterior of the building holds aesthetic colors characteristic for the investor, whereas the simple geometric body with its steel coating meets the functional requirements of structures located in the industrial vicinity of dense traffic. The 2-shift operating complex consisting of 11 wooden modules was designed as an alternative solution to a similar traditional masonry building combining staff and office spatial functions, including high standard locker and sanitary rooms for more than 40 employees. Also, the building is adapted to serve as a training, conference and meeting venue. Clearly, the project was elaborated in order to eliminate all architectural barriers making it wholly accessible for the disabled.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The provided project is ultimately factory completed with all system testing and sign-off. Apart from lower costs in comparison to traditional construction and previously mentioned high insulation parameters, the complex has been designed to be energy saving, mainly due to its central heating system which uses on-site production process heated water as a source of energy. Additionally, there is an emergency solution to water heating thanks to a heat exchanger powered by other sources. In order to both increase cost effectiveness and improve work conditions, the building is equipped with a ventilation system based on concealed ducts which work in sync with the main air handling unit and its recuperator of 91% efficiency. This hence allows for the recovery of generated heat. The roof structure is adapted to potential photo-voltaic system installation. Rapid connection and running process of the unit at site is reduced to minimum to save on resources.

Green Building Description : Environment protection is a vital element at Kan-Bud. Therefore, we are active in recycling production material, we hold valid environment permits, whereas our employees are eco conscious in each project. As mentioned, Norwegian environmental laws are exceptionally strict, therefore during this particular venture, an eco-friendly approach has been of great importance. Namely, improved thermal insulation and a special recuperative ventilation have been applied in order to avoid losing heat; big windows account for natural daylight, whereas the suspended ceiling accounts for a solution to acoustic matters. All fixtures were selected with particular focus on their low volume and energy use abilities.

Technical Innovation : Kan-Bud’s Norwegian project does not hold a precedent among its existing products as it has been the first time the company designed and manufactured a facility based on Norwegian codes TEK 10 which are extremely restrictive and put great emphasis on natural environment protection and energy efficiency. Taking into account these requirements, a system of multi-layered construction partitions were implemented to assure high thermal insulation parameters of the roof and floor. Moreover, a half hour fire protection time span is guaranteed, both for exterior and interior fire. In order to enhance the interior and acoustic comfort, a suspended ceiling was installed. Another innovative accent is the usage of gypsum board coated with special spray wallpaper. Other unique elements installed include: Norwegian fire alarm system, security card entrance method, IT and water leak protection. Kan-Bud strives to manage its resources responsibly to make them as sustainable as possible.
