Architectural Excellence : The mission of Agape Ministry is to provide emergency relief to the hungry, hurting, and homeless of Warren County. Agape also follows up with referring their clients to outside agencies that can help them reach financial self-sufficiency. Agape had outgrown their current thrift store location and needed to obtain additional retail space on site. The goal was to install an additional space that could serve as the "Holiday House" to sell holiday supplies and decorations, as well as a separate storage area. A 24'x60' modular classroom was re-sided to match the existing thrift store at the site. This space provides 720 square feet of retail shopping space and 720 square feet of storage and donation drop off center. The modular building was also changed to link to the existing building for convenience. The building interior finishes were completely replaced to bring the building up to current aesthetic standards.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The modular addition that was donated by Hunter Saak doubled the sales from an average of $500 per day to nearly $1,000 per day. It also increased the receiving of donations by almost 30 percent. Technical Innovation : There were three particular challenges to this project. The modular building needed to be connected to the main store by a hallway. A ramp needed to connect the two rooms of the modular to the existing building. The modular building had to have a similar façade of the main thrift store. The project had to be completed within 30 days. The grand opening of the Holiday House was scheduled for November 5, 2011 to allow time to stage product in the building. Hunter leveled the site, dropped the building, hooked up all utilities, and opened the exterior walls of both buildings to build the walkway that connects them. All on site work was completed in less than five days. The existing store did not have any disruption in services during the construction process.
