Caserones Operation Camp
Additional Info
Award Winner : Tecno Fast S.A.
Architectural Excellence : The layout of the camp was designed to provide a spacious and visually pleasing exterior for its residents. The shaded walkways provide refuge from the hot Chilean sun, and connect the bedroom pavilions with common areas including recreation facilities, dining areas and a sports pub. The bedroom pavilions are linked together by connector modules in order to provide common gathering spaces and continuity of operation. This design improves thermal efficiency and increases the comfort of the residents, who can avoid inclement weather during winter months. The curvilinear nature of the buildings emulates the adjacent mountain stream, making best use of a rare water feature at this elevation.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The building was equipped with low flow water fixtures and energy efficient lighting. This was especially important since the facility is located in an area with little water and is off the main electrical grid. The use of modular construction resulted in less material waste while providing a higher quality, more efficient product. Materials and electrical and mechanical systems were selected to ensure the facility will withstand daily use in an industrial setting, while exceeding the 25 year life required by the owner.

Technical Innovation : In order to decrease the project schedule, the accommodation pavilions were constructed modular while the common areas were built on site. This approach allowed for a faster overall project schedule, as the on site work was completed while the modules were being manufactured in the factory. The 3 storey modular pavilions were designed to optimize available floor space per unit, with each module containing either 2 or 3 bedrooms.
