City of Jenner Post Office

Architectural Excellence : In 1983, the City of Jenner, CA obtained a portable office building to use as a temporary Post Office, and 25 years later it was still being used. The dilapidated facility rocked when it was windy and leaked when it rained. They were in desperate need of a new solution. M Space provided them a 12' x 40' modular post office. The new facility is a third larger than its old building, as well as more functional and more secure. The building has a perimeter frame and sits on a concrete foundation. The building has a floor-to-ceiling steel roll up door that divides it into two sections, the public area with the mailboxes and the administrative area where the mail is processed. The exterior of the building consists of upgraded vinyl siding, store front doors and a baked on enamel steel roof.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : M Space worked with the City of Jenner to create an energy efficient and environmentally-friendly building. The photovoltaic porch lights rely on the sun's power to run, and thus use less electric energy than traditional lights. The windows are dual pane and insulated and the store front door has a UV coating. It was more cost effective for the City of Jenner to choose modular construction for its new building. The modular building was constructed, installed and ready for occupancy much sooner than it would have been with traditional construction, allowing the Post Office to be in the new, more secure facility faster.

Technical Innovation : It was important to the City of Jenner that its new facility be larger with upgraded features. Since the new building was a long time coming, they wanted it to be a significant improvement from the old temporary facility. Instead of a typical modular roof, M Space installed a gable roof with integrated gutters. In addition, the building has a site-built front porch with a soffit to add an inviting architectural appearance. The building also has photovoltaic porch lights that provide enhanced security and conserve energy. Because security was important to the City of Jenner, M Space installed a floor-to-ceiling steel roll-up door. This door locks and allows the Post Office to close the administrative/processing area and protect the mail, stamps and other valuable items, while keeping the public area open for access to P.O. Boxes when the Post Office is closed.
