Architectural Excellence : The original plan to site build an MRI addition to the Claremore Indian Hospital fell through and they worked five years to make the addition possible. Thus, the hospital was looking to add the MRI as quickly as possible while minimizing disruption to patients and staff in the hospital. IMS installed an 884 ft² modular MRI suite with a Toshiba Vantage 1.5 Tesla MRI. The exterior of the building used a brick wainscot with EIFS to allow the addition to blend seamlessly with a previous addition to the hospital. An access ladder was installed from the existing hospital roof to MRI building room to join the building. Inside the hospital, IMS renovated an existing patient room to become a waiting room that allows for a peaceful transition into the MRI. Custom casework was also designed and installed to store the MRI body coils for the Radiology Technologists along with an ADA restroom with a wardrobe locker that allows patients to change clothing without having to leave the MRI area.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The use of modular buildings for MRI scanning equipment has proven to be cost effective and successful. For this project, the location had been waiting five years to add the MRI equipment. Therefore, getting the MRI installed as quickly as possible to begin seeing patients was critical. The building utilized established engineering techniques that minimized development time. The building was also customized to meet the specific requirements for the Toshiba Vantage 1.5 Tesla MRI. By manufacturing the units in a controlled environment, the specialized electrical system, HVAC system, custom casework and RF/Magnetic shielding can be installed during manufacturing. This allowed the building to arrive ready to receive the MRI equipment. The team quickly and efficiently installed the equipment, and the hospital started generating revenue by seeing patients immediately after the long anticipated addition was completed.
Green Building Description : The MRI addition was built to be as energy efficient as possible. The building utilizes high efficiency HVAC equipment and the building envelope exceeds all energy code requirements. The interior finishes, including the paint and flooring, have Low Volatile Organic (VOC) compounds to ensure it is a safe environment for patients and staff.

Technical Innovation : Several features were installed during manufacturing to meet Toshiba’s requirements as well as provide energy efficiency. These included RF and Magnetic shielding to contain RF noise and 5 Gauss line as well as state of the art DDC Controls that were integrated into the HVAC system to monitor and remotely adjust temperature and humidity. The control system allows employees to log on remotely and adjust the temperature or humidity while monitoring trends in critical areas. For security, a card reader and keypad access was installed into the MRI control room from the waiting room as well as on the exterior door into the control room.
