Company Operation Facilities - BCT-I, II, III
Additional Info
Award Winner : Ramtech Building Systems, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : The architectural features of the Company Operations Facilities were selected by the Army to blend with the desert surroundings of El Paso and the existing structures on the Ft. Bliss military base. As part of the Army's Modularity Program, the buildings are designed to provide working space for administrative functions for the relocation of enlisted personnel including infantry, artillery, and aviation companies. All of the buildings are two-story clear span steel construction and feature a combination stucco-clad concealed fastener metal siding with split-faced block. Each building has been constructed to meet Federal HFC and ATFP blast-resistant standards.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Ramtech Building Systems and our construction partner Hensel-Phelps Construction determined that the accelerated construction schedule and budget constraints of the project required the use of modular construction as the only cost effective means available to meet the Army's needs. The project consists of three separate construction phases with eight separate buildings required in each phase. The construction for the first phase started in December 2006 and all three phases are due for completion in early 2010. The buildings utilize a white TPO 25-year Energy Star certified roof, as well as gas-fired boilers for heat and a chilled water system for cooling. Each facility exceeds the ASHRAE 90.1 energy conservation performance standards by 30%.

Technical Innovation : All of the buildings provided for this project were designed to meet the USGBC's LEED Silver standard. Each of the modular sections were constructed using Ramtech's 'floorless' Slab-On-Grade Permanent Modular construction process. This system utilizes standard modular manufacturing techniqes with the exception of constructing the sections with five sides and no floor. The building sections are transported on special carrier frames to the job site and then are crane set on a traditional concrete slab-on-grade foundation. The Slab-on-Grade Permanent Modular Construction process allowed the Army to recognize the speed and quality derived from a factory built structure with the permanence and reliability of a concrete slab-on-grade floor/foundation.
