Architectural Excellence : This modular store was designed to provide the Skyland neighborhood of Washington DC with a temporary CVS while demolition of the existing store and construction of a new one took place. It is a single story, self-contained retail store building complete with a fully operational pharmacy, aisles of retail goods, cashier area, storage, managerial office space, and customer restrooms along with automatic fire alarm, paging, intercom and voice/data systems. Access to the building is by a custom handicap ramp with custom awning. The rear exit is served by a material delivery ramp.
Standard Redi-Plex units, which have no internal columns, were used and well suited for retail use. It is situated in a temporary parking lot while demolition/construction takes place.
The building exterior is painted Dura Temp wood siding with painted wood trim. The roof is Mule-Hide black EPDM and the interior is vinyl covered gypsum walls, vinyl composition tile, carpet, and acoustical ceiling tile.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This building incorporated a number of cost saving features that made the modular building the most cost effective approach to solving an additional space need. A Lease Option allowed CVS to have a new building constructed at a lower up-front cost to solve their space needs.
Offsite construction of modular units allowed the new building to be erected in record time so that the clients were not displaced. Clients left the store on Sunday night and returned to the temporary store on Monday morning.

Technical Innovation : The local Skyland neighborhood in Washington DC needed a new CVS Store as the existing one was over 40 years old and in bad shape. Because the local clients could not do without the pharmacy services during construction, CVS is leasing this temporary store while the exiting building is being demolished, and the new store is being built.
