DC Public Library – Anacostia
Additional Info
Award Winner : WillScot Mobile Mini
Architectural Excellence : The interim library design provides a dominant open space to invoke limitless access to all corners of the building with minimal office and facility space. Clean crisp external finishes, stairs, ramps and canopies along with decorative banners provide an inviting allure to the public.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Anacostia Library’s open floor plan and exposed ceiling provide an efficient means of installation. The clear-span space, with limited impeding demising walls, appeals to pliable future reuses.

Technical Innovation : Opened ceilings provide an industrial appearance revealing exposed trusses, HVAC ductwork and suspended light fixtures. Floor to ceiling heights and opened webbed trusses increase sense of height and inadvertently give the appearance of a larger space. Decorative fencing continues the industrial impression externally, by encasing facades of the building.
