Architectural Excellence : The US Department of Homeland Security was in need of additional space for their Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia due to a significant increase in applicants for this program. The building was designed to accommodate weight and aerobic training, be cost efficient and be completed within a short time frame.
The final project consisted of eight modular buildings totaling 17,314 square feet.
M Space delivered thirty-two modular floors creating three 50’x 50’ weight training buildings, two 50’ x 50’ circuit training buildings, two 48’ x 48’ locker room buildings with showers and one 50’ x 50’ storage building. All buildings have vinyl block tile floors, recessed entries, 130 MPH wind loads and 10’ clear ceilings. The buildings incorporate “clear span” construction which eliminates all interior columns that would compromise equipment layout and positioning. Budget and an achievable 90 day timeline were the determining factors in choosing modular construction.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Due to local labor rates of $35/hour, traditional construction was not an option for the training center. Modular construction was therefore the most cost effective choice. Since manufacturing occurred simultaneously with site preparation and foundations, the 90 day timeline was maintained. The buildings were designed to be easily relocated, providing the potential for additional future savings.

Technical Innovation : Weight issues resulting from the heavy training equipment made it necessary to increase the floor load at the factory to accommodate the150 pound load bearing requirements. Floors in the locker rooms required welded seams for the vinyl rolled tile which extended 6 inches up the wall, creating an impermeable water seal.
