Architectural Excellence : When Federal Way School District began the ambitious goal of a high school campus renovation, they knew they would need temporary space. Bringing forty-four classrooms, a library building and six dedicated restroom buildings to campus created flexible space that classes could be rotated through as the demolition and rebuild of the entire school was completed in stages. These buildings were placed on a variety of terrain, including the former football field and student parking lots. Classrooms specific to a specialized need, such as the home economics classroom, sit adjacent to bright, open classrooms ready for whatever subject needs a temporary home during this stage of construction. Keeping the students on the main campus and within easy access of other classes and resources was vital to the district.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Reusing the prime real estate of the high school campus and renovating its existing facility allows the district to invest funds that may have otherwise been tied up in land acquisition, into the quality of the new facilities. Having the educators and the 1450 students stay on the site during the drastic rebuild, while a logistic hurdle, proved a savings over creation of temporary schools off site, as well as saving the mental cost of a divided high school. The collaborative environment of the general contractor on site with the educators and students opened doors to creative innovations in the new facility.

Delivery schedule required collaboration with the general contractor performing the remodel as well as with the school’s relocation resources. Delivery and installation was completed in six weeks, including ramping and other access solutions.
