Award Winner : BCT Structures, A Clean Harbors Company
Architectural Excellence : The building is designed for use as the main training centre for the trades education department at the Grand Prairie College. The building features 4 large classrooms, washrooms and a large storage room. The interior finishes were designed to incorporate a post and beam feel at the module joints utilizing faux post and beam treatments. The exterior was designed using Hardi-plank siding and a pitched truss roof system.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Site installation cost was reduced by devising methods to install the Hardie-plank siding in the plant and only having to site install the module joiner strips. In addition to the HVAC units, economizer were used to reduce the cooling demand and air was distributed with concentric diffusers. Walls were 2x6 R 20 insulated with a fully power vented truss roof and R40 blown in insulation with Low E windows.
