Additional Info
Award Winner : NRB Modular Solutions
Architectural Excellence : This project is a five-storey hotel with 104 total guestrooms of various types, including king, queen, twin queen and accessible queen suites. 8 rooms are fitted with kitchenettes to serve long-stay guests. Public area amenities include a grab-and-go outlet and lobby bar, two spacious lounge areas with fireplace and a dining area with covered patio access and self-serve guest kitchen. Wellness amenities include an accessible indoor swimming pool and a fitness room. The new generation of the Hyatt Place prototype was used as the design standard for the hotel. All elements, from lobby to guest rooms to dining experience, are designed with the guest in mind, answering their needs in creative and dynamic ways. Using modern façade materials, the building is designed with contrasting finishes and incorporates natural brick, composite, metal and traditional siding materials. The clean façade is further accentuated through the use of modern DMX and traditional façade lighting elements.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Modular construction is well-suited to hospitality projects. The manufacturing process allows for greater quality assurance and control through robust standards which help reduce re-work and keep the project on budget. On this project, manufacturing of the modular guestroom units was scheduled while the early site works were underway to ensure delivery and erection of the units was performed within a well-controlled timespan. Time equals money in construction and modular has the benefit of reducing time on-site and overall timelines. For a hospitality project like this, a faster opening for operations means revenues that start being generated weeks ahead of a conventional build. Lifecycle costs are also important to any facility, including hotels. The Hyatt Prince George is well-appointed with energy efficient LED fixtures and lighting and occupancy sensors are incorporated throughout the building to reduce operational energy costs over the building’s lifespan.

Technical Innovation : Level 1 of the building is a hybrid model of traditional site build and modular construction methodologies to accommodate the various public area features. Levels 2 to 5 made use entirely of modular construction methods, with the guestrooms finished in the manufacturing plant, delivered as completed units and erected within 12 days. Accessibility and sustainability are at the forefront of the Hyatt Place guest experience. The hotel is well-appointed with accessible rooms featuring barrier free access and an automated accessible wheelchair lift has been incorporated into the swimming pool design. With regard to sustainability, the external parking area includes parking stalls dedicated to electric vehicles with three car charging stations. Energy efficient LED fixtures and lighting are in place throughout the hotel along with occupancy sensors which create an overall more sustainable and cost-effective project.
