Architectural Excellence : Building is a 20’x24’ guard house to be used by Johnson Controls to house security at their new Distribution Center. The layout accommodates 2 security personnel. Customer required the building to have a high-end industrial design so a hip roof was built using High Rib 29 gauge steel and a 24” overhang on all sides. The Hardi panel exterior and color matches the surrounding facilities to present a professional, uniform look. Fixed, 4’x4’ windows are designed to provide 180 degree visibility by security guards. Exterior steel doors improve durability for its high-use situation and include a bronze tinted 24”x36” lite for visibility.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : There were several energy efficient features in the building. Windows were designed with insulated low-e bronze tinted glass, T5 lights were used and an Eemax instant water heater was used to conserve energy. And the Insulation used was 19, 13, 30 respectively throughout the building.

Technical Innovation : The customer required a hip roof for a professional industrial look. The roof structure was built using pre-engineered trusses on multiple angles. They had to graduate in height from two different angles. We also had to provide a LVL beam that was tapered at each end to match the rise in the hip trusses, but it also had to span the length. The sidewalls and one 24’ end wall had to be reinforced with 3”x 5” square steel tubing post and headers because of the windows. The HVAC was pad mounted to fulfill the customer’s requirement of using equipment built by a subsidiary of Johnson Control. The plumbing had to discharge through the side wall not directly through the floor. This required an exterior plumbing chase and a toilet that discharged through the exterior wall. The HVAC was a pad mount self contained with an exterior duct chase. The building had one electrical panel . Since it was set low, we had to install the electrical cross over wires in the building soffit.
