Architectural Excellence : As the people of New Orleans repopulated the once-devastated city, enrollment at KIPP Academy’s Central City Campus surged beyond capacity. The school needed six new classrooms fast to accommodate the new students. ModSpace converted the three distressed lots next to the schools into an extension of the main school. Site work included the installation of concrete slaps and sidewalks followed by the connection of sewer lines and water meters. Finally the six finished modular classrooms brought in and linked by decks and canopies and then surrounded by securing fencing. Inside the classrooms white boards, cork boards, new floors, windows, thermostats and restrooms were added. After just 60 days the classrooms were in place and ready to welcome 180 new students.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Three abandon lots adjacent to the school campus, though in dire condition, were identified as the best location for the coming expansion. ModSpace committed to making the lots work as the site for its six modular classrooms. Recognizing the school’s need and the tremendous challenge to find other more profitable uses for the land, the city of New Orleans leased the land to KIPP Academy for just $1 making the project financially feasible.
