Award Winner : Aries Building Systems, LLC
Architectural Excellence : KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) was founded in Houston in 1994 and has grown to 141 public schools in 20 states and DC serving nearly 50,000 children. Houston is KIPP’s largest region, with 22 public schools serving nearly 11,000 students and an additional 1,000 alumni in college and beyond. KIPP was in need of immediate class size reduction suited for their budget within a 200-day time frame. They required 30 relocatable education units to serve their needs.
Our A1 floorplan units are comprised of a 68’x140’ nominal 64’ x 136-5 box module. We utilized a steel frame and steel exterior and installed a 1-hour fire wall. Marker boards were installed in-plant and 5’- 16’ tackboards joined with H-bars were also added. We established carpet, tile, and custom wall paint throughout each building, creating appealing classrooms, offices, and hallways. All units were transported via Aries Building Systems truck and trailer system and placed on the beautiful landscaped campus property of KIPP
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Without sacrificing quality and style, the sheer speed in which we delivered the project saved KIPP time and money.

Technical Innovation : From design to occupation, Aries Building Systems was assigned the challenge of delivering strong, durable, and attractive classrooms and educational space in a short timeline with minimal site disturbance. Because of this, we executed as much construction as possible within our factories. In order to accomplish this task, our modules were installed on a temporary foundation to ensure a quiet on-site installation environment.. The windows feature low E coatings to suppress heat flow and the HVAC units are equipped with heat pumps. Another characteristic is that the building can be easily expanded with additional modules to create extra space. Going into this project, we knew that we would have to hit the ground running, so our integrated design build team utilized our skills by balancing the importance of budget and schedule goals with the design vision.
