Lower Perkiomen Valley State Park Ranger Station
Additional Info
Award Winner : Modular Genius, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : This prefabricated ranger station building layout has an open area for the public to learn about various plants and animals found in the park. The building also has an open control room area for the rangers, a locker room with an employee restroom, and private offices. The exterior was designed to match the existing park office by adding a pitched roof and color matched high ribbed steel siding. This building was constructed with three smaller 10' x 40' modules in order to travel through tight roads in the park to its final destination.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The cost effectiveness of using modular allowed the park to install the building on an existing site and not have to submit for special permits to take additional green space, which requires expensive and time-consuming environmental review. VCG walls, VCT flooring, and an acoustic ceiling were used throughout the building. Installing a holding tank saved the client substantial costs due to existing plumbing at the park being over 300 feet from the modular building, requiring mature trees to be removed, which is not an option at the state park.

Technical Innovation : An existing elevated bandstand was demolished and all recyclable materials from the demolition were taken to a proper construction recycling plant. A 300-gallon holding tank was installed, which saved the park from costly and site impacting excavation. LED lighting was installed to reduce electric costs, and recycled insulation was used throughout the building. The building entry was tied into an existing walkway, reducing additional impact on the green area of the park.
