Architectural Excellence : This functional, efficient, elementary school addition addressed the owner's budget and schedule requirements allowing, in part, the consolidation of the district. The 400' central corridor is lined on both sides with administrative offices, multipurpose rooms, restrooms, library and classrooms. This Pre-K-3rd grade building addition was constructed in a parallel layout to the existing 4th-6th grade building and is connected by a masonry corridor.
Architectural design, construction methods and planning allowed for the 28,590 square foot facility to be installed as Type VB wood framed construction by utilizing a masonry fire separation wall. Constructed of (29) 14'x70' modules with a 10'x45' site built corridor, this facility enabled the district to consolidate the Pre-K-6th grade student enrollments to a central campus. This new single story facility is now the first view of the campus entrance and compliments the existing facility both in finishes and in profile.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The project schedule was planned so that the modules would be constructed during the first quarter of 2011 allowing optimum manufacturer pricing. Coordination was maintained between the architect, the project management team and the manufacturer to ensure that value engineering of all components could be optimized. The savings generated allowed the building size to be increased by over 10%. This savings allowed the owner to add a library and an additional multi-purpose room.
All of the lighting is controlled by room occupancy sensors, along with dual switching in the classrooms allowing the energy usage of the lights to be cut in half during class instruction time.
The modules were installed over a conditioned masonry crawl space. This system protects the plumbing from freezing and assures that the floor system stays dry. The HVAC systems in the classrooms and office areas are individually controlled with programmable thermostats and CO2 sensors maintaining fresh air supply.

Technical Innovation : Constructing the building modules during the winter months for completion by the close of the 2010-2011 school year provided the district with the necessary time to complete the consolidation process.
The building design addressed the requirements for the complete technology upgrade of the campus. The technology upgrade included the installation of smart boards, smart projectors and a computer network system.
The modules where built utilizing steel mate beams which will add to the life cycle of the buildings. In this design by using a steel mate beam instead of a wood mate beam we were able to reduce the depth of the beam by over half allowing for a more uninhibited space above the suspended ceiling.
The design also incorporated a parapet mansard creating a stronger resemblance to stick built construction while blending in with the existing structures.
