Manitoba Hydro Keeyask Infrastructure & Generation Project - Phase One
Additional Info
Award Winner : Metric Modular
Architectural Excellence : Phase One of this workforce accommodation complex is designed to enable guests to have access to all the major components of the facility without having to go outdoors. This is particularly appealing given the long winter season where temperatures are typically -40C for four months of the year.
Within the facility, guests have access to the elaborate fitness facility, indoor golf simulation, movie theatres with tiered seating, squash and racquetball courts, an indoor running track, two full-sized basketball courts, games rooms, a licensed lounge, a full dining experience in the cafeteria, as well as sauna amenities.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Modular was the only option due to the remote location. There are no material supply houses, or even regular transport of goods to allow a normal construction process.
Green Building Description : The location of the buildings on the site were strategically chosen to maximize the daylight sun. The windows used were chosen for their energy efficiency, while taking into account the smaller glass area due to the cold. Blackout blinds were installed for the comfort of the guests and for their energy efficient qualities.
