Architectural Excellence : Metrolinx GO Train is expanding and more station stops are being evaluated for new construction or renovation. In response to this growing need, Metrolinx worked with NRB to introduce a newly designed state of the art “portable” ticket sales terminal - a result of months of research and development in everything from operational needs and branding to ticket attendant thermal comfort and ergonomics. The exterior architectural metal panels in white and grey reflect the brand colours and materials. The building features large viewing glass with speakers and security transactions drawers in stainless steel counter tops for three attendants. The terminals are completely self contained with a staff washroom with a macerating toilet, 800 gallon sewage and water holding tanks to accommodate regular weekly fill/ pumps as required, as well as the addition of a small kitchenette. Rear cabinets for storage of papers, printers and personal items have also been included.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The goal of these relocatable ticket terminals is for the owner to be able to respond to anticipated transit infrastructure changes with ease. Full ticket station new builds and fit-outs have long construction times and locations can be in very congested urban areas. The use of these temporary ticket stations gives Metrolinx more flexibility on the number of projects they can do at one time, and will eliminate any down-time at a particular station from construction activity. Each ticket booth being self contained requires only delivery to site and connection to power to become fully operational. When no longer needed, the units go in to storage until the next station needs it so the reuse ability with quick start up offers excellent cost benefits to the owner.

Technical Innovation : The new ticket stations are non-combustible steel construction for durability in lifecycle and for ease of relocation and placement on various site locations. Each of the 3 ticket wicket areas are designed in accordance with Metrolinx full Station standards guidelines. A fully ducted heating and cooling system was incorporated to ensure continuous comfort of the attendants, with a split cooling system for communications room. Large shutters over glazed areas provide safety and security during closed hours or periods when the buildings are placed in storage waiting for their next assignment. From the electronics perspective, the portable ticket stations are self supportive and are designed to be fully functional during the demolition or renovation of an existing site, or would work as a satellite booth in a new location if required.
