Architectural Excellence : The Naval Air Weapon Station in China Lake, CA was in need of a temporary facility to house personnel who were being displaced due to the base realignment. M Space worked to design a solution that met all of the Navy’s criteria and provided them an efficient, cost effective building. The final product was a 20,160 square foot office building. The building consists of 10 offices, two multi-stall restrooms and a large open space in the middle. This layout was perfect for the navy because they could place cubicles throughout the center of the building, enabling them to house all the necessary employees in one facility. In addition, the M Space solution worked best for the navy’s schedule. The entire 20,160 square foot building was constructed and installed in under 28 days.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : M Space installed a 5kw solar panel that was pole mounted at the perimeter of the building. This not only helps to conserve energy, but also reduces costs. In addition, the Navy saved money by choosing modular for its project and by choosing M Space. The navy determined that M Space’s solution provided them with the "best value” as opposed to the tents, steel buildings and smaller modular buildings that were proposed by other companies. The tents would not be as comfortable, the steel building would not have been as economical, and the smaller modular buildings would lead to the employees being located in separate facilities instead of one large building. The size and configuration of the building that we submitted, as well as the speed in which we could finish the project was the best fit for the Navy and the most cost effective solution.

Technical Innovation : The Navy required that this particular facility adhere to some of the UFC 4-010-01 DOD anti-terrorism standards. M Space installed doors and windows to meet these standards. The windows are designed with multiple layers of laminated glass and special frames. The windows are unique in that they do not shatter and shards of glass are not blown in or out of the building. In addition, snorkels were installed in each of the HVAC units. These devices are designed to take the fresh air intake for the building to a minimum of 10 feet above the ground. Since the most harmful gases are heavier than air, the snorkels make it more difficult for poison to be released into the air system and disbursed throughout the building. The building is also one-hour fire rated and equipped with sprinklers.
