Award Winner : Metric Modular
Architectural Excellence : This complex was built for the construction and operation of an underground copper/gold/silver mine. The project started with a 7,200 sf used office and evolved to include a 7,200 sf new building identical to the used one. The complex was designed to divide occupants into two separate work environments with two built-in corridors to facilitate a comfortable, easy flow of people from one side to the other.
The foundation is a concrete slab-on-grade for ease of installation and stability for the life of the building. Each building contains 27 offices, two conference rooms, kitchen and male/female washrooms with 9' wide hallways to allow for efficient traffic flow and file/storage along office walls. Most of the offices are on an outside wall to maximize natural light and provide a bright, pleasant working environment.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Designed for functionality, durability and the comfort of employees in a comparatively remote location with significant seasonal temperature fluctuations, these buildings are a cost-effective solution for the owner. Because the buildings were constructed off site, there was minimal impact on the company and the environment during the construction process.

Technical Innovation : The buildings are heated and cooled with BARD furnaces, distributing the air through insulated ductwork in the T-bar ceiling space. The corridors each have their own entranceways and were constructed as complete buildings with insulation, heat and lighting to provide protection from the elements with a seamless, integrated appearance to complement the adjacent complexes.
