Newtown High School
Additional Info
Award Winner : M Space Holdings LLC
Architectural Excellence : The Newtown High School 5544 square foot building consists of four classrooms, two (2) restrooms, a teacher’s lounge, equipment room, with a central corridor being used as additional classroom space for the High School. M Space’s scope of work included the supply and installation of the building, including foundations, datacom and a new fire alarm system. Due to the time constraints imposed by the school in order to meet the fall opening, M Space proposed the reuse of another project that was coming off lease. M Space was able to offer more square footage and amenities to the school with the revised floor plan than was required with a new building. As a result, Newtown saved money and received more value with the remarketed building.. The Town and M Space worked seamlessly to ensure an on-time opening while completing the project with no change orders or additional costs.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The cost effectiveness was realized in two (2) specific areas. The first was the reuse of an existing building( while larger than specified) was still less than a newly manufactured structure. This larger building will enable the Town to put additional children in each classroom than originally anticipated. Second was the re-positioning of the larger building on site which reduced the service runs providing additional savings to the Town.
This building less than three (3) years old and meets all state energy code requirements.

Technical Innovation : Utilizing an existing building coming off lease by redesigning the proposed building to incorporate a larger facility. The redesign required site adjustments due to a larger building footprint which reduced the runs for utilities, water, sewer and other site services saving the town additional funds.
