Our Lady's School
Additional Info
Award Winner : Vesta Modular
Architectural Excellence : Our Lady’s Catholic School was devastated by Hurricane Laura in August of 2020. Through the use of existing used modular buildings from our fleet, VESTA delivered and installed 4 classroom complexes and 1 administrative module to house the students and staff during their rebuilding efforts. We worked closely with the architect to expedite the information needed for site placement and permitting. VESTA provided almost 24,000 sq-ft of space, including 25 classrooms, and quickly readied the modules at the factory prior to delivery to the site. The exterior siding was painted to match on all classroom complexes giving the campus a cohesive look.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The immediate nature of the disaster response required the use of available refurbished equipment. The modular campus is more cost effective than having to transport kids to school at various church buildings off campus and more efficient than online learning. The used equipment allowed a quick delivery and install. By utilizing existing used buildings, the school was able to save over 30% compared to cost of new on the building lease. At the end of this rental, VESTA modular can relocate the modular classrooms to be used by another customer.

Green Building Description : VESTA utilized a standard set of education specifications for the project, which provide a comfortable environment for education use. The specifications include features such as energy-efficient lighting fixtures, controlled by occupancy sensors which turn off when the rooms are not occupied. Windows provide daylight to every classroom and are double insulated with low-e glass. Use of low-emitting building materials throughout ensures the indoor air quality meets the highest standards. Mechanical systems provide appropriate levels of fresh air through the use of commercial room ventilators and are controlled with digital programmable thermostats for efficiency and ease of use. Once the school’s reconstruction is complete, the buildings will be able to be relocated and reused at a new location.

Technical Innovation : Our Lady’s Catholic School needed temporary space to house their students and staff after the school was damaged by Hurricane Laura. The school was able to meet in a local church building to continue classes in the interim, while the modular campus was erected. The soil conditions were poor as a result of the storm and extensive site work was required by the general contractor prior to VESTA installing the modular buildings. VESTA modular worked with the Lemonine Group to design site layouts and engineered foundations.
