Architectural Excellence : Prince George's Community College's Annex B & C is a single story, 2-building complex with classrooms, assembly room, faculty lounge, offices, conference room, computer labs, and restrooms. The ADA accessible buildings provide flexible space during campus renovations and are equipped with automatic sprinkler, fire alarms systems, IT capabilities, and digital display equipment.
Each building features a central corridor and connecting walkways between buildings for seamless access to all services. The main entrances to both buildings are marked with a custom decorative canopy. The exterior skin is a painted fiber cement board with brick veneer skirting while the interior is painted gypsum walls, carpet tile, vinyl composition tile, static dissipative tile and acoustical ceiling tile. The roof is mule-hide EPDM. Surrounding areas were developed to provide parking, walkways and micro-bio-retention ponds for efficient storm water management.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : These buildings incorporated a number of cost saving features that made the modular solution the most cost effective approach to solving an additional space need.
An allowance option allowed the college to reallocate funds for the budgeted items.
Due to an accelerated schedule, Williams Scotsman was able to provide offsite construction while onsite utilities ran concurrently; this allowed the construction schedule to be compressed to meet the project needs. In addition; Williams Scotsman was able to exceed the client's desired local minority business enterprise (MBE) participation for all site work.

Technical Innovation : PGCC did not want their new modular facility to resemble temporary classroom trailers. Williams Scotsman resolved their concern by providing a site installed exterior skin that matched the campus design requirements. The mechanical systems were designed so that all air handling units faced the rear of the building or were roof mounted thus allowing the front elevation to blend seamlessly with the existing campus.
The school was already at full capacity and in order to proceed with other campus renovations PGCC needed a new facility to relocate faculty and staff from existing classroom trailers before further construction could begin. Williams Scotsman expedited service by fabricating Annex B and C at our affiliate factory in Rochester, IN and Leola, PA simultaneously while the site work commenced. Once site work was completed all modular units were shipped in from an offsite staging area and crane set onto site installed solid concrete piers.
