Regional Airport Addition
Additional Info
Award Winner : ModSpace
Architectural Excellence : In early 2010, Cheyenne Regional Airport reached an agreement with American Airlines to service two nonstop jet service flights to their hub in Dallas/Ft. Worth. With flights starting July 15th, Cheyenne Regional Airport quickly needed an addition to their terminal. By utilizing three open shells of an 84 piece complex, ModSpace designed and built a working terminal addition for Cheyenne Regional Airport. The modular terminal was designed and outfitted to meet the unique needs of the airline’s staff, passengers, and TSA personnel. This included the addition of multiple ramp systems to facilitate customer movement between the adjacent main terminal and to and from the planes at the new gates.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : By recycling existing buildings into a new cost effective solution, the turnkey building was completed in just 90 days. Delivered and ready to occupy in July, ModSpace took advantage of refurbishing existing fleet to be able to provide a terminal much faster than traditional construction. In order to meet the airport’s needs, ModSpace designed a terminal to meet 2006 IBC building codes as well as current energy standards by utilizing a three-phase HVAC system, Low E double-insulated glass windows, and additional high-grade insulation in the walls and ceiling. In addition to energy efficient measures that were taken additional measures were taken for water conservation which included low flow toilets and faucet.

Technical Innovation : Cheyenne Regional Airport’s tight deadline meant ModSpace would need to deliver and set up the new facility in near record time. With consideration to the extreme surroundings of the severe Cheyenne weather and deafening noise of passenger jets, the construction services team worked with airport officials to install insulation and windows to protect passengers from the elements while providing an effective sound barrier from the neighboring runway.
