State Highway Scale House
Additional Info
Award Winner : Modular Genius, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : A state highway found it in their budget to replace a current scale house that was way overdue for replacement. The state highway not only purchased this two unit modular but also needed to schedule the removal of their current facility. This facility had to be up and operational in a matter of months in order to keep a regulated scale house in operation. This facility needed to have site built canopies over all entrances and exits for state personnel benefit, as well as a composite lumber site built ramp. This particular state highway scale house needed a backup generator in order to continue their work straight through power outages. The foundation had to be built in a manner to not only support this facility, but also facing parallel to the highway for vision purposes dealing with the trucks passing through.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The large viewing windows are low ‘e’ glazed for energy saving purposes. A commercial glass front door and multiple insulated and tinted windows were placed throughout the building bringing natural light into the space. Higher insulation levels in Ceiling (R-38) Walls (R-13) Floors (R-30) insured lower monthly utility bills and create healthier and more comfortable building environment. High performance lighting such as T-8 lighting with continuous dimming ballasts ensures high light levels, but low energy use.
