Architectural Excellence : First impressions are important in a lot of life's circumstances. Zoo New England knows this fact, and undertook a comprehensive welcome-plaza revitalization project this year. The first thing you see when entering the zoo is the off-site built 12' x 40' ticket booth. Zoo management wanted to make sure that the walk-up ticket booth integrates well into its surroundings and matches other structures in the welcome plaza. The modular building's exterior walls are finished with Cambia vertical wood siding attached with a concealed fastener system. Visitors prepare to begin their zoo experience by purchasing admission tickets at the fixed commercial transaction windows in the front.
Climate controlled with an end-mount HVAC unit and programmable thermostat, the ticket booth's interior is finished with painted sheet rock, T-Grid acoustical ceiling, custom counter top, and custom durable floor covering.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Built with the fastest method of modern construction, the off-site production of this ticket booth saved the zoo money, in project management expenses, due to the streamlined project schedule. Modular construction also allowed for the building to be constructed, without costly prevailing wage rates, which would have been required on site.

Technical Innovation : 90% completion of the building at the factory, accomplished by utilizing off-site construction, substantially reduced the amount of time needed to perform work at the site. Attractions, such as the zoo, are constantly working on critical improvements; but inconveniences created during the development of improvements can have a detrimental impact. Building with modular mitigated inconveniences that would have existed, had the unit been built with a different type of construction.
The combination of Cambria vertical wood siding and the concealed fastener system created a sleek attractive building that balances modern accents with matching surroundings. Installing the ticket booth on a concrete full perimeter foundation allowed for walk-up service, without additional ADA access systems.
