Architectural Excellence : The Fields LA is located in a 40’ used shipping container that was converted into a trendy outdoor bar in front of the new Gensler-designed Banc of CA Stadium in downtown LA which opened last spring to house the LAFC professional soccer team.
The bar consists of a 14’ taproom with beer and frozen cocktails and a 6’ enclosed area for soft-serve ice cream. The kegs are stored in a 6.6’ walk-in refrigerator with lines distributed to custom taps. The remaining space is used for sinks and dry storage.
Because the building is at the entrance to the new stadium and there is 360-degree visibility, it was very important for all sides of the container to be finished and branded. Thus, the exterior is clad with a finishes consisting of Garapa wood, blackened metal panels and corrugated flashing to add design detail and hide pluming and electrical fixtures.
Fans can enjoy their drinks and ice cream on the deck furnished with custom tables, chairs and planter boxes.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Significant costs savings were achieved through the time savings for permit and install as well as the efficiency of factory build processes. The entire container was built in our factory through the State of CA Commercial Modular program using our standardized assemblies and materials that were purchased cost effectively in bulk. When the building arrived on-site in LA it was inspected and ready for install. The electrical, water, sewer and gas connections were straightforward and simple. All connections were accessible and exterior to the container allowing for “plug and play” installation. The container was installed in less than two weeks from the time of delivery.
In the event that the owner would like to move the container in the future, it is very easy to disconnect the utilities and transport it to another site. The construction and structural design of all aspects of the container are considered giving the customer maximum flexibility and reducing construction risk.

Technical Innovation : This building was designed with several key factors in mind. It had to be able to withstand the drive from Northern CA to LA, be picked up with a crane and dropped on piers that were surrounded by a pre-built wood deck. All utilities were accessible on the exterior side of the container for easy and rapid “plug and play” installation.
Environmentally friendly materials and processes included a used, recycled shipping container, LED lights, and low VOC paint. The building has a mini split heating/cooling system, is fully insulated and is Title 24 compliant. Factory built processes enabled minimum construction waste.
Special design features include a 20’ wooden rolling barn door, a custom glycol system to run the beer lines to the custom taps and an automated louvered awning provides shade, rain protection and lighting. The interior surfaces are all cleanable to meet health code and the aluminum-paneled walls provide a striking backdrop to the point of sale.
