University of Illinois Temporary Ticket Office
Additional Info
Award Winner : JMO Modular
Architectural Excellence : The project building is a 24x42 education coded modular building, originally configured with three nominal 13x24 classrooms, with three exterior doors on one side and a single exterior door on the opposite side. The exterior of the building had a shingled roof over vinyl siding.
After re-furbishing, the building displayed a large, vibrant, aesthetically pleasing common area for ticket lines, complete with new carpet squares, some of which included the University of Illinois athletic logo, a full-width, glass enclosed ticket counter, and a non-public data/storage room with an employee area behind a wall separation from the ticket area. The door layout of the building meshed very nicely with the needs of the University in processing ticket sales.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The use of pre-used modular units for this project resulted in a distinct economic advantage for the University when compared with other available construction methods. Most of the refurbishing of the building was completed at the JMO Mobile Modular facility in Marion, Illinois, while project site work was being completed. Performing the refurbishing at the JMO enclosed facility allowed for a more streamlined and efficient method of construction than doing the same work on-site. Careful pre-construction planning by the construction team and University officials greatly enhanced the cost-efficiency of the renovation work, and insured that the building would be re-usable upon completion the building’s use at the University.

Technical Innovation : The University of Illinois had an urgent need to find space near its athletic facility to house ticket sales operations for sporting events before the commencement of the fall 2014 term. To insure security and efficiency in the sale of tickets, the University required that the ticket booth extend the entire 24 foot width of the building to allow five individual ticket stations, each with shelves, quad electrical outlets and conduit leading to boxes for installation of data lines and security cameras. Additionally, the entire area of ticket sales was designated to be enclosed by safety glass extending from the top of the counter to the ceiling.
Installation of electrical service, data runs, and all other conduit was achieved by the construction at the JMO facility of two 12 foot wide half walls, with countertop installed. Special care and attention to detail was required in order to insure that the walls and countertop would match upon installation of the building.
