Veterans' Clinic
Additional Info
Award Winner : Modern Building Systems, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : This 2 module, 1288 square foot veterans’ clinic was built as an addition to an already existing veterans home. The exterior look of the structure had to match the on site home. The main visible feature is the metal roofing, being extended down to the grounds as part of the siding, creating multiple angles on each end of the building.
The overall look was completed with matching colors.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This clinic was originally designed and approached as a stick built structure, but came in far over budget. The timeline necessary for a site built structure was also a major concern for the owner. By going to a modular application the Department of Veterans Affairs was able to have costs saving of almost fifty percent over site build as well as completing the project and providing healthcare services on site within sixty days.

Technical Innovation : The main technical feature in this building is the heating and air-conditioning systems. Per the veterans engineering requirements the mechanical system had to provide air exchange in the vicinity of five times more than the general building code would have required. In addition, this being a medical clinic, some of the rooms had to be positively pressurized in order to avoid air exchanges.
