Award Winner : BCT Structures, A Clean Harbors Company
Architectural Excellence : The building was a single section, 15’x30’ module designed to be placed on a poured slab foundation. The building layout was designed without a floor, incorporating all fixtures, cabinetry, etc to be wall mounted in the factory to allow shipping without a floor system. The interior of the building is built with vinyl covered drywall to provide a durable and washable surface. The exterior of the building features metal cladding and a standing seam metal roof mounted on roof trusses. The building is used as the security check point for Walmart’s largest and most technologically advanced distribution warehouse in Western Canada.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : By developing the module to be without a floor system, the cost of the module and material usage was kept to a minimum with the scope of work requiring the poured slab foundation. Site installation was kept to a minimum and only required the unit to be fastened to the slab. The shipping frame used as the interface with the slab. Installation was completed within a single day. The slab was utilized as the floor system for the building. A BARD high efficiency heat/cool unit was used for heating and 2x6 walls with R20 insulation and roof construction with R 42 values help minimize heat loss.

Technical Innovation : The building had to be designed to ship without a floor system. New techniques had to be devised to run the building down the production floor without the benefit of the module floor system to help keep the building square. Other techniques were developed to wall mount every component in the building to minimize site installation time. The building was also built and installed in a very short period of time.
