Architectural Excellence : The use of repurposed shipping containers highlights an underlying theme of efficient delivery of products to consumers around the world. The horseshoe layout with open glass side and end walls allows a full viewing experience of the drone delivery operation from each module in the complex. The center of the office complex is anchored by a double 20 foot shipping container that houses a Wing Aviation drone on display for guests to see up close. A uniform dark grey exterior paint color highlights the visual displays and graphics on the exterior walls to enhance the guest experience. Overall, the open office feel creates an inviting and visually appealing atmosphere.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The onsite contractor and manufacturer worked closely in the pre-planning process to identify who possessed the strongest skillsets to achieve the end-product in a cost-effective manner. Accordingly, scope of work was allocated in such a way to expedite the construction process. Various container sizes and layouts were considered to achieve the most efficient layout. A multi-zone ductless mini-split heat pump system allowed for multiple buildings to be serviced by a single condenser mounted on the exterior of the container. A basic pier foundation system allowed for a simple installation and leveling of the buildings and will allow the owner to easily relocate the buildings in the future should they so desire.

Technical Innovation : The use of code-compliant shipping containers allowed the owner to meet aggressive launch deadlines and become the first company to operate a commercial air delivery via drone in the United States. There was a need to eliminate any structural columns where a container sidewall had been removed at the mate line inside the double 40-foot conference room structure. The solution that was implemented minimized the size of interior header inside the conference room by placing an exterior beam on top of the container mate line and blending it with the site-built roof line. The solution worked well and achieved a completely open floor plan.
